Trebles in Paradise: A Bass-ically Queer Musical!
“Trebles in Paradise” is a lighthearted yet candid tale emphasizing some of the unique experiences faced by queer college students. In a culture in which so many people are still viewed through the lenses of stereotype and prejudice, the show presents queer characters that are relatable, human, not restricted or defined merely by their queer identity, yet proud of their identity and personal journey. It is a love letter to all who have ever been marginalized based on their gender or sexuality. The show will premiere the weekend of April 6-8, 2018 in the Integrated Learning Center Auditorium, room N151.
Synopsis: A hopeful group of music students begin their freshman year at the prestigious Spier Conservatory: The animated, quirky, nerdy, garish, genderqueer Nelson, the charming, compassionate, and closeted transgirl Desmond, the shy, bisexual wallflower Lara, and her old unrequited love, the cunning, prideful, articulate Lindsey. Nelson is eager to help Desmond explore his identity, but pressures from fellow students and Desmond’s family back home make it a journey fraught with fear. Lara is desperate to move forward with her life, as well as pursue her interest in Nelson, but Lindsey makes certain it is impossible for her to forget, and impossible to hide the feelings she is ashamed to have.
