Hannah Frilot Memorial Scholarship

In memory of Hannah Frilot, this annual scholarship supports an undergraduate student and is established to encourage young women to follow in Hannah’s footsteps and pursue their interests in an underrepresented major. Examples of underrepresented major fields include engineering, science, and mathematics. This is a current use scholarship, but our hope is to raise $25,000 so that we can make it an endowed scholarship and ensure that it be awarded every year in perpetuity. Hannah Frilot worked hard as an industrial engineering student (one of only a few women in the class of 2015).  Hannah loved music – playing and singing at many open mic sessions in the Amherst area. She also worked on campus for UMass Amherst IT (OIT) and participated in several campus organizations. In addition to her engineering and IT work, Hannah was optimistic and enthusiastic, making friends easily, advocating for women, and supporting the Stonewall center for LGBTQIA students as treasurer of UMass Amherst Pride Alliance. In all walks of life, she worked to spread awareness of the various and intersecting forms of prejudice, discrimination, and privilege while promoting equality. With her many interests and involvement on and off campus in mind, preference will be given to women active in their community and studying in an underrepresented field.
