We are HackUMass, a student-run hackathon with the goal of bringing together 500 students under one roof to participate in a 36-hour competition designed to test the limits of their knowledge and creativity. To learn more about HackUMass, you can visit our website www.hackumass.com.
What is a "hackathon"?
A "hackathon" is an event that brings together software and hardware engineers, knowledgeable mentors, and top-tier companies, confines them to a set location for an extended period of time, and allows innovation to foment within the walls of said location. Teams compete to win in various different categories, tapping into their skill set and creativity in a contest of technological chops.
Why should I support HackUMass?
By choosing to donate to HackUMass, your charitable contribution will help launch an event unlike any other at the University of Massachusetts.
HackUMass will allow students from a variety of different backgrounds the opportunity to showcase their talents and use what they have learned to create innovative projects of their own imagination. Better still, the students get an opportunity to present their project directly to representatives from great companies, including Microsoft, Google, Fitbit, Draftkings, and many more.
But what difference will my donation really make?
There are endless ways that we can make HackUMass a better event for our participants and our university. Some ways your money could be spent include:
-Increasing promotion to and attendance from various locations outside of Western MA, including Boston, New York, Providence, Connecticut, and several other prioritized locations.
-Providing free bus fare to students from any of the above mentioned places
-Providing additional food and drink at the hackathon from local vendors
Your support will give us the tools to make this event as great as it can be. Thank you for your consideration, a huge thank you if you choose to contribute, and most of all, happy hacking!
