Chemistry Alumni Reunion Gift 2017

Alumni are coming together to honor a former Professor Emeritus of Chemistry.

Chemistry Alumni Reunion Gift 2017

The Chemistry Department is teaming up with the UMass Amherst Class of 1967 50th Reunion for a special cause that is very near and dear to us.

Our joint goal is to raise $175,000 for the naming rights of the main lobby of the newly renovated  Old Chapel to honor the late Professor Emeritus George Richason, Jr. '37, '39MS, '91HON. In collaboration with the Class of 1967 50th Reunion and in preparation for the Chemistry annual reunion this year, we hope to present this funding as a 2017 Chemistry Alumni Reunion Gift to the university.

Professor Craig Martin, past head of the Chemistry Department, called Professor Richason’s contributions to our department and to the university overall as “seminal, benefitting many generations of its students and contributing to the economic vitality of the Commonwealth.”

If our goal is met, a plaque will be displayed prominently in the lobby of Old Chapel memorializing Professor Richason.* If the $175,000 goal is exceeded, or if the goal is not met, we will use the Chemistry gifts for a departmental scholarship in Professor Richason’s memory.

Thank you for your generosity, and we look forward to seeing you in June 2017!
