Hello everyone! We are very excited to introduce our upcoming performance Elements: Movement and Sound, which will be held in the Bromery Center for the Arts Concert Hall on February 4th and 5th in 2022.
Elements: Movement and Sound is a Music and Dance Department collaborative concert between the UMass Percussion Ensemble and the UMass Dance Program. It is a journey into the depths of the natural elements of our world bringing hope to our present moment through a provocation of the senses. Live percussion performance of compositions by Garth Neustadter & Kjell van Sice, Philip Glass, Jason Treuting and Iannis Xenakis, directed by percussion faculty Ayano Kataoka, accompany original choreographies by dance faculty Molly Christie González, Aston K. McCullough and Lauren Cox. The concert features UMass music and dance students along with storyteller Muriel Johnson, watercolor by Richard Yarde and lighting design by Bessie Award winner, Tuçe Yasak. Saturday’s show will also feature four-time Grammy Award winner and world-renowned percussionist Glen Velez with his fellow musicians Shane Shanahan (percussion), Yousif Sheronick (percussion), and Raman Kalyan (flute).
We have received grants from UMass Arts Council, HFA Research Council, and Center for Teaching and Learning to supplement guest artist fees and partial maintenance fee for the venue. However, we still need your help to fund expenses for stage crew, costume, publicity/marketing, videographer/photographer, and percussion equipment.
We strive to make our events meaningful and impactful to the UMass community and beyond - We greatly appreciate any support that you can give to us. Thank you so much for your generosity!
