The UMass Wind Ensemble is taking their first INTERNATIONAL tour in May of 2017! Students will travel to Ireland for ten days to perform concerts in Cork, Killarney, and Dublin, and visit the Artane School of Music for a musical exchange with the Artane Band to learn about the music education system in Ireland.
Students participating in this tour are paying their own way and your donation will go DIRECTLY to help alleviate travel costs. Each player is paying $3195.00, which includes airfare, instrument transportation, all ground transportation, concert venue rentals, advertising for concerts, local guides, meals, etc. -- it's all inclusive, but cost prohibitive for some. We will be traveling with a full wind ensemble (45 players) and instrumentation is important! YOUR gift will help us make sure that we can take everyone we need.
Our world is growing in its demand for globally-minded people, and one of the best ways to achieve this is through travel and exploration. The majority of students in our ensemble have never traveled outside of the United States, and many have never been outside of New England. Traveling with a music ensemble is complicated, but it is also the PERFECT way to see and learn about the world. Instead of experiencing new places and culture merely as a tourist, musicians traveling on this tour will have the opportunity to "give back" to the communities we visit with concerts. It is a true cultural exchange.
