Thank you so much for your support of the Sylvan Snack Bar! We're so lucky to have awesome community members like you to help our legacy in Sylvan continue on. We greatly appreciate your choice to support us as well as the entire co-op community at UMass. We can't wait to get back to work and see you at the Snack Bar again.
Since ‘71, The Sylvan Snack Bar has been the spot for evening and late night dining for students, serving subs, calzones, quesadillas, and more, making it the oldest student-run business on campus. It is a non-profit, cooperative student-run food business located in McNamara Dorm in the Sylvan Residential Area. The Sylvan Area Government felt strongly that because Sylvan is a remote residential area, students would appreciate a place nearby to get food and socialize. To this day, we are dedicated to serving the Sylvan community and being part of the area’s identity.
When our business unexpectedly closed down along with the rest of the campus community, the Snack Bar paid our employees an extra two weeks for the income they relied upon. This was a huge expense for the business. Additionally, we have not been able to re-open for three semesters.
The Snack Bar is reaching out to our community for your support in the form of donations to maintain our legacy. Our goal is to raise $3,000 for the Snack Bar. Half of this amount would go towards covering the payroll expense for our hard-working co-managers, as well as opening costs. The other half will be donated into a collective account accessible for the entire UMass co-op community. This means that all donations you make towards our campaign would also aid all of the student-run businesses that are cornerstones of the campus.
We hope to hit the ground running and open in Fall 2021 with the rest of our co-op community. Any donation you are able to make we would greatly appreciate, in addition to sharing the fundraiser to your social media pages. With the support of our amazing community, we will be back on our feet in no time! Thank you for all the love and support during these hard times!

If there's one thing more quintessential to the Snack Bar than our calzones, it's our beloved Danny DeVito! To express our gratitude, along with the other perks, we also will honor you in the highest way we know how-- by hanging up a picture of you with Danny DeVito inside the Snack Bar for a year.
