One of the core principles the Minuteman Marching Band is built on is "Band is for EVERYONE." This was one of the Starred Thoughts of our former director, Prof. George N. Parks, and it guides us to this day. As part of "Band is for Everyone," we often have students join us who do not own their own instrument. In the case of larger, marching-specific instruments such as mellophones, sousaphones, baritones and percussion, everyone plays on a school-owned instrument. The majority of instruments in our band are typically owned by the individual student; trombones, trumpets, clarinets and the like. Not every student does not own their own instrument, though. This is especially the case when someone joins our band who had previously not participated in high school. We have had numerous success stories of beginners joining our band.
The Minuteman Marching Band has a very limited supply of school-owned instruments we can make available for those who need them. In each of the past few seasons, we have run low on the number of instruments we have to offer. Secondly, many of these school-owned instruments are in poor playing condition. We are looking to raise $20,000 in order to purchase new school-owned instruments. Alto and tenor saxophones are always in high demand and we just don't have the inventory. Trombones are a similar story. Several of the instruments we do have simply need to be replaced. $20,000 will allow us to increase our supply with better conditioned instruments. It will allow us to stay true to our mantra, "Band is for EVERYONE" by having a quality instrument for everyone to use.
