The high cost of college textbooks can derail even the most gifted student in their first year of college. Imagine if we could remove this source of stress for Emerging Scholars students, allowing them to focus fully on their studies and future success? The Emerging Scholars Program at UMass Amherst’s Commonwealth Honors College has been doing just that since 2005.
The Emerging Scholars residential academic program for first-year students provides community, mentoring, and advising to talented underserved and under-represented students, many who are the first in their families to attend college. Our ES students thrive, graduating from UMass Amherst at a rate of 97% in four years with many going on to graduate and professional school and successful careers. They belong to a community that they can turn to when things get tough and make the personal connections they need to flourish at UMass Amherst and beyond.
We ask you to join our community of program alumni, faculty, staff, and friends by making a contribution to the Emerging Scholars Book Fund this year. The fund helps us to purchase the students’ textbooks during their first year on campus. The Emerging Scholars Book Fund is a simple and powerful way for our students to know that you have their back. Gifts in any amount are welcome, as they add up quickly and inspire others to contribute.
