"Community Journalism at UMass Amherst was one of the best classes I took during my undergrad education. We traveled to Springfield, Mass. each week, and the youth I worked with taught me a lot about what it means to write and report on black and brown communities. I earned so much more than a few credits from taking this class. I met amazing students like Fynta T Sidime​ with the understanding that I wasn't part of some save the natives project. I was part of this program for two years, and I am a better journalist for it. The thought that this program would be discontinued is heartbreaking.
