UMass Powerlifting Collegiate Nationals 2019

The UMass Amherst Powerlifting club is now entering its third year as a registered student organization and has nearly tripled in size since being established!

Throughout the past academic year, UMass Powerlifting has been involved in a number of volunteer events. In September, 20 members of our club raised over $5,000 for the American Cancer Society and attended their “Pulling for Hope" event, where we pulled a 150-passenger JetBlue aircraft 24 feet in less than 11 seconds! We also regularly volunteer to spot and load at many local meets, including the Ryan Moore High School Championship. As a club, we look forward to informing the youth of the sport and growing the interest across all age groups through our presence at meets and other events.

With the growing interest in the club, the addition of regularly scheduled team practices has been a huge benefit to team bonding as well as the improvement of lifters strength and technique. Our members are required to compete in at least one USAPL competition each year, and we have seen exceptional performances from all of our members thus far!

This coming April, UMass Powerlifting will be sending 28 members out to Columbus, Ohio to compete at USA Powerlifting’s Collegiate Nationals. The roster of attending members has nearly QUADRUPLED from last years number! All of the attending members are looking forward to competing on the national stage and representing our school.

As a team, we are looking for donations to help fund travel, competition fees, and accommodations. Each donation made is a step towards representing UMass and ourselves against other schools at nationals. In order to get all our ducks in a row before it's time to leave we are seeking funding as soon as possible so reservations can be made. We all extend our greatest thanks for your contribution and look forward to competing in April. The competition will be live streamed, and an update with the link will be sent out as the competition date gets closer.
