Vocal Suspects New Album
The Vocal Suspects are recording an album this spring, and we need your help! We are taking on this project in tandem with our 20th anniversary as UMass Amherst’s first and oldest mixed gender a cappella group. From the moment the group was founded in 1999, diversity, risk-taking, and growth have been central to our values and have shaped our journey to professionalism and national recognition. This year has been particularly transformative for the Vocal Suspects. We released our second studio album, Into the Blue (linked below!), that we recorded in 2017. Over the summer, we sang the National Anthem at Fenway Park and performed for the French Consulate in Boston. We also accepted six new members to the group this fall. This February, we learned that our most recent album was nominated for the most prestigious nomination awarded by The Contemporary A Cappella Society: Best Mixed Collegiate Album. We are looking to take this achievement, growth, and momentum and capitalize on it by recording our third studio album.
This album will allow us to share our music with a broader audience, gaining traction in the world of collegiate a cappella in a time where the digital availability of music can make or break a group’s success. It will also give our new members the opportunity to experience the process of preparing for, recording, and refining a professionally produced album; two-thirds of our group weren’t members when we recorded in 2017. We hope to commemorate twenty years of musical expression and showcase our commitment to creativity in the form of a tangible, concrete product that we can then share with all of you!
