Supporting Students Who Have Experienced Foster Care

The Foster Student Success Fund is designed to support UMass Amherst students who are currently in foster care, have experienced foster care or are aging out of the foster care system. An initiative of the UMass Amherst Parents Association Advisory Council in close collaboration with the Dean of Students Office, this fund helps to ensure that students who have experienced foster care have access to resources that will help them transition to college and achieve academic and career success.

Often students are faced with decisions that impact their ability to fully immerse in the collegiate experience.  For example, study abroad and internship opportunities are critical to student development and desirable for career success.  Yet, costs associated with transportation, storage and safe lodging can be barriers in taking advantage of opportunities that enhance the classroom experience.   This fund will supplement resources already available through the Dean of Students Office and FAFSA.

Contribute as much as you feel you can as every penny helps. 100% of the money you donate goes to students who have experienced foster care. We thank you in advance for your generosity.

Students interested in learning more about accessing this fund will contact the Dean of Students Office at 413-545-2684. There they will be connected to a case manager and receive immediate resources.
